Monticello’s municipal airport has received yet another award. The Federal Aviation Administration recognized Monticello Municipal Airport as the 2011 Outstanding Airport in Arkansas.
It was one of five airports in the five-state Southwest Region recognized at a recent conference in Fort Worth, Tex. The region includes Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
The award comes less than a month after the airport was recognized by Gov. Mike Beebe and state Department of Aeronautics director John Knight as Arkansas’ “Airport of the Year.”
Five airport commissioners, appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the city council, oversee Monticello Municipal Airport operations. The airport commissioners are Bennie Ryburn III, John Porter Price, Zach McClendon, Richard Reinhart, and Charles Savage. The airport is managed by James Barnett.
