A City of Monticello employee was arrested Tuesday for theft of property and abuse of office, according to a news release from the Drew County Sheriff’s Office.

David Knight, who fills in at times at the city’s water office, allegedly acquired a Monticello water customer’s banking information from a check and applied that information to his personal Entergy account from April 2016 through August 2016, according to the news release.

“It is alleged that Knight applied approximately $1,665.89 against the customer’s business account,” said Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober.

Following a series of interviews, Knight reportedly admitted to Lt. Tim Nichols his involvement, according to the news release.

The case file will be turned over to 10th Judicial District Prosecutor Thomas Deen for a charging decision.
