Monticello Mayor Zack Tucker signed a proclamation Monday ordering the flag of the City of Monticello to be lowered to half-staff in memory of former Monticello police lieutenant Jerry Crook. Crook passed away on Saturday.
The city flag will remain at half-staff until sundown on May 16, the day of Crook’s funeral.
“Crook served the community for nearly 30 years on the Monticello Police Department,” Tucker said. “His years of service was greatly appreciated. The city and I will be eternally grateful for his service for the community.”
Crook, 76, was first hired on the Monticello Police Department on October 31, 1973, serving the City of Monticello for a total 29 years and 6 months until his retirement on April 30, 2003. He was a Mason and a member of Pauline Missionary Baptist Church.
A funeral service with Masonic Rites will be held at 2 p.m. on May 16, at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel. Visitation is from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.
