Delta State University senior Chelsey Rhodes, a graduate of Monticello High School, has been named Gulf South Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Year.
“Chelsey is most deserving of this honor,” said Gulf State Coach Craig Roden. “She was first-team all conference last season and proved that she was not going to be a person who would rest on her laurels. She took the Spring and Summer to develop her body and improve her game to the point that the other coaches in this great conference took notice.”
Rhodes, who was selected First-Team All GSC for the third straight year, led the GSC in scoring (20.1 ppg.) and averaged 3.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.4 steals per game. Her 82.8 free throw percentage (130-of-157) also led the league. She led the Lady Statesmen scoring efforts in 18-of-25 games and scored in double figures in 24-of-25 games.
Rhodes was named the GSC Player of the Week twice this season. She scored a career-high 34 points against Harding (11.27.15) and Shorter University (2.18.16).
Rhodes ranks sixth on the all-time scoring list at Delta State with 1,701 career points and needs 54 points to break into the GSC career scoring list. Her 197-of-593 career 3-pointers ranks second all-time in school history and in the GSC Top 10 in both categories.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av4nYQGw3B8″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
