A Monticello man apparently drowned in Bayou Meto Tuesday afternoon, according to Arkansas County Sheriff Allen Cheek.
Johnny Donaldson, 68, apparently drowned in Bayou Meto in Arkansas County after losing control of the tiller handle on his boat motor when his boat hit a stump.
“It appeared to law enforcement that his boat hit a stump beneath the surface of the water causing him to lose control of the tiller handle,” Cheek said.
He was reported missing around 1:30 p.m. when several fishermen saw his empty boat in the middle of the bayou, according to Cheek.
Following a 3-hour search by Arkansas Game & Fish personnel, State Police, and Arkansas County law enforcement officers, Donaldson was located just above the flood gates of the Arkansas River, according to Cheek.
