Monticello recorded its first homicide of 2011 Sunday morning when a Monticello man allegedly stabbed a distant relative during an altercation on Davis Street.

Michael Dancy, 42, of Monticello, was arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing of 48-year-old Tony McCraney, of Pine Bluff, according to Monticello Police Captain Eddy Deaton.

Deaton said McCraney’s neck was cut with a folding lock-blade type knife during the early morning hours of September 18.

“They got into a verbal altercation and Dancy pulled a knife and stabbed McCraney in the neck,” Deaton said.

McCraney died at Drew Memorial Hospital Sunday morning.
