Monticello interim mayor David Anderson and Joe Rogers, a former mayor, appear to be headed for a runoff in the special mayoral election.

Anderson, a Democrat, finished first with 456 votes and Rogers, an independent, finished second with 389 votes in three 3-man race. Ronny Carr, also an independent, finished third with 208 votes, according to the final, but unofficial election results.

The runoff election is May 30 with early voting running from May 23-26, There will be no early voting on May 29 since the courthouse will be closed for Memorial Day,

The runoff winner will serve until December 2018, completing the term of former mayor Zack Tucker who resigned in January 2017 after he was charged with abuse of office and tampering with a public record. He subsequently pleaded guilty to abuse of office, a misdemeanor, and ordered to pay $22,500 in restitution to the city.
