Joe Rogers David Anderson 3Early voting in the runoff election between David Anderson and Joe Rogers for mayor of Monticello begins on May 23 and ends on May 26.

The election is May 30. There will be no early voting on May 29 since the courthouse will be closed for Memorial Day.

David Anderson, a Democrat and a former mayor who is currently serving as interim mayor, garnered 456 votes and finished first in a special election on May 9, but it wasn’t enough to avoid a runoff with independent candidate, Joe Rogers.

Rogers, also a former mayor, received 389 votes in the 3-man race, finishing ahead of independent, Ronny Carr.

The winner will serve until December 31, 2018, completing the term of former Monticello Mayor Zack Tucker who resigned on January 17.
