A Dermott woman was arrested Monday after police found the body of her 12-year-old son at their home in Dermott. Betty Adams, 39, is charged with abuse of a corpse, according to State Police.

Dermott Police responded Monday at 5 p.m. to a Melton Street residence in Dermott and were told a child’s body was inside the home where Adams lived with her children. Local police secured the property and contacted state police requesting special agents be assigned to investigate the case, according to State Police.

State Police special agents found the body of Justin Adams in a bedroom of the Melton Street residence where they lived.

The body was transported to the state Crime Lab to determine the cause and manner of the death, as well as when the death occurred.

Adams booked into the Chicot County Jail at Lake Village. Her bond was set at $20,000.
