Nancy Lee Vondrak Clayton, 73, of Warren, died on August 30, 2017, at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, due to complications following heart surgery.

She was born on August 31, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, and was the daughter of the late Edward Victor Vondrak and Rose Komarek Vondrak.

Mrs. Clayton’s early religious training was in the Lutheran Church in Chicago. She was a 1961 graduate of Gage Park High School in Chicago. Upon graduation, she was then employed with the civil service in Chicago as a secretary, where she met her husband, Cliff Clayton. They married on August 25, 1962.

Mrs. Clayton’s first priority was raising her two daughters and caring for her home and husband. She lived many places during Mr. Clayton’s 20-year Air Force career, during which she served in the PTA in Jacksonville and led Girl Scout troops in Biloxi, Mississippi and Knob Noster, Missouri.

In 1976, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton moved to Warren where she was a member of the Warren Band Parents’ Association, chaperoning band and choir trips, working in the concession stand, and performing in the Warren Band Follies. She was a mainstay at the Helping Hands Food Bank for almost 15 years. She also worked at Mode O’Day clothing store and the water office in downtown Warren. After Mr. Clayton’s retirement, he and Mrs. Clayton built their dream house, which served as a home base for their many trips together. They visited their daughters regularly and traveled the United States, especially enjoying a 50th anniversary cruise to Alaska. Mrs. Clayton and her daughters took a trip to the Czech Republic in 2003, where Mrs. Clayton explored her family heritage.

Mrs. Clayton attended Westside Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, served in the kitchen and enjoyed working with children in Vacation Bible Sschool. She dearly loved her church family and participating in the church’s monthly outing with the Pairs and Spares group.

She is survived by her husband, Clifford Wayne Clayton; two daughters and their husbands, Donna Rich (Pat) of Ogden, Utah, and Laura Eady (Fred) Carrollton, Georgia; two sisters, Barbara Allen, Palos Park, Illinois and Cynthia Mills, Berwyn, Illinois; a brother, Edward Vondrak, Jackson, Mississippi; sister-in-law, Dixie Clayton of Warren; two grandchildren, Jake Rich and Clayton Rich, Riverdale, Utah; and nieces and nephews, Brooke, Dick and Todd Allen; Amanda and David Mills; Joyce Hammons and Michael Clayton; and their families.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, at Frazer’s Funeral Home in Warren. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation is Monday, September 4 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
