Nell E. Burney, 96, of Lake Village, died January 27, 2014 at the Nashville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Nashville, Arkansas.
She was a native of Line Arkansas, a resident of Lake Village for most of her life and a former resident of McGehee.
Miss Burney graduated from Portland High School in 1936 then attended the Draughon Business School in Memphis, Tenn. She started her career with Farmers Home Administration in Hamburg in 1940 and retired in 1982 after 42 years of service.
She was a member of the Lake Village Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Eli and Emma Garrett Burney; two brothers, Alcus Burney and Edwin Burney; a niece, Beverly Elizandro and a nephew, Allen N. Burney.
She is survived by her caregivers, her nephew, Eli Burney and wife, Lana, of Nashville; a brother, John H. Burney of Ironton, Mo.; two nieces, Jeanette Ashley of St. James, Mo. and Allene Molinaro of Little Rock; two nephews, Garrett Burney of Hamburg and John T. Burney of St. Louis, Mo. and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held January 30 at 2 p.m. at the Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Bates and Rev. Billy Sanders officiating. Burial will be in the Trafalgar Cemetery. Pallbearers are George Ashley, John T. Burney, Garrett Burney, Bill Elizandro, John Elizandro and Nathan T. Burney. Memorials may be made to the Old Troy Church Restoration, c/o Dian Ricks, 405 E. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until funeral time Thursday at the church.
