Southeast Arkansas kids who want to play fall baseball will not have to travel to central Arkansas to play, thanks to Heath Reep, who is organizing a fall baseball league right here in Southeast Arkansas.
“I organized the league to provide the kids of Southeast Arkansas the opportunity to play fall baseball within a reasonable driving distance,” Reep said. “In the past, teams had to drive to central Arkansas to play.”
The league, which is open to children under the age of 13, will begin play on August 20 and run for six weeks, according to Reep.
“We have kids as young as eight that are committed to play,” he said.
League games will be every Monday and Thursday night at the Warren Baseball Complex and players do not have to live in Warren to participate.
Registration for the new league begins Tuesday. The cost is $40 per player and includes a team jersey and cap. Registration forms are available at Union Bank in Monticello and Warren and at the Swap Shop in Warren.
“We will hold a draft, following a skills assessment on August 4 at the Warren Complex,” Reep said. “Because of the wide age range of the kids, there will be some pitching rules that will be enacted in an effort to provide the younger players an opportunity to build confidence and enhance their skill set.”
Reep said they have several volunteer coaches lined up but may need a few more, depending upon how many more kids sign up. They will have certified Cal Ripken umpires calling the games.
