A mid-October trial date has been set for the Drew County couple suspected in the late February death of their 2-year-old daughter Aubriana Coke. The child’s step-father Daniel Pedraza and biological mother Victoria Pedraza are each charged with capital murder and permitting abuse of a child in connection with the toddler’s death.
They say the toddler fell from a dock at Lake Monticello onto rocks the day before she died, but the state Medical Examiner listed Aubriana’s death as a homicide with multiple blunt force injuries.
During a hearing on Monday, Circuit Judge Bynum Gibson set the couple’s trial for October 15-29 and denied a defense motion to sever the cases.
Gibson denied the motion for severance without prejudice, meaning they can renew the motion, and set the case for pretrial on July 10 at 1 p.m.
Victoria Pedraza is represented by Pulaski County attorney Greg Parrish while Daniel Pedraza is represented by Pulaski County attorney Jeff Rosenzweig. Both appeared with their attorneys in Drew County Circuit Court on Monday when Gibson also ordered the attorneys to identify within the next 30 days any expert witnesses they may call to testify at the October trial.
Tenth Judicial District Prosecutor Thomas Deen received the autopsy report last week but still hasn’t received other crime lab reports such as the serology report. Gibson instructed Deen to find out when that report will be complete.
Serology is the scientific study of blood serum and other bodily fluids.
