Opal Irene Phillips, 102 of Star City died on July 7, 2016 at Gardner Nursing Center in Star City.
She was born June 30, 1914 in Waldron to the late David Meeks and Emma Abigail Slater Sherrill. She was a charter member of Crigler Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and church treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the Extension Homemaker’s Club, Busy Hands Club and was a homemaker.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Samuel Phillips and numerous brothers and sisters.
Survivors include two sons, William Harvey (Frances) Phillips of the New Home Community and Jerry Dean (Betty) Phillips of Star City; two daughters, Wanda Jeanette (Lloyd) Owen of Star City and Patricia Irene (Buddy) Warbritton of Hot Springs; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 10 great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on July 12 at 2 p.m. at Griffin Funeral Service Chapel in Star City with Bro. David Leopard officiating. Burial will be at Drake Cemetery. Her grandsons will be pallbearers.
Visitation is July 11 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
