Oscar Coleman, Jr., 76, of Dermott died on September 23, 2015 at McGehee-Desha County Hospital in McGehee.
He was a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Dermott for many years. He was also a former employee of Riceland Food.
Mr. Coleman was born on August 5, 1939 in Dermott and was the son of the late Oscar Coleman, Sr. and Scottie (Hill) Coleman.
He was also preceded by two brothers, George Coleman, Sr., Henry Coleman, Sr., and a sister, Deloris Ganter.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Geraldine (Wright) Coleman, of Dermott, 11 daughters, Detris Phurd and husband, Barney of Beloit, Wisconsin, Yvette Turner and husband, Derrick of Hickory Hills, Illinois, Tolise Harris and husband, Bonnie Dale, Jr. of Beloit, Wisconsin, Anna Green and husband, Bruce of Dermott, Latonyia Evans of Dermott, Mary Coleman of Elgin, Illinois, Joy Ray Alfakih and husband, Yousef of Dermott, Kimberly Coleman and husband, Tyrone Simpson of Dermott, Yvonne Coleman of Dermott, Brenda Sheppard and husband, Elbert of Little Rock, Hope Ridgell of Bastrop, Louisiana; five sons, Oscar Coleman, III and wife, Wanda of Chicago, Illinois, Al Coleman and wife, Wanda of Chicago, Illinois, Kenneth Coleman of Elgin, Illinois, Titus Coleman and wife, Mashima of Chicago, Illinois, Freddriek Coleman and wife, Venus of Dermott; three sisters-in-law, Albert Coleman, Eddie Mae Walker and Claudine Mumphrey; 63 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, two great great-granddaughters and numerous other family and friends.
Visitation will be on October 3 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Dermott. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Revs. Ricky Lattimore W.L. Pummer will officiate the services. Burial will be at the Coleman Cemetery in Dermott under the direction of Bishop-King Funeral Home of Lake Village.
