Daniel Pedraza escaped a possible death sentence Saturday when he pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in connection with the February 2012 death of his 2-year-old stepdaughter, Aubriana Coke.

Pedraza, who was originally charged with capital murder, which carries a possible death sentence, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, a Class Y felony punishable by 10 to 40 years or life in prison. He is scheduled for jury sentencing on June 3.
