Peggy C. Rice, 73, of Portland, died on July 31, 2016 at her residence.
She was a native of Drew County and a resident of Portland for the past 56 years. She graduated from Hamburg High School and she worked at People’s Bank in Portland for over 35 years. She was a member of the Portland Baptist Church where she was active in her Sunday school class. She enjoyed working in her yard and her flowers.
Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her parents, John Wesley and Vera Lee Higgason Cox; a sister, Dovie Stanley; and three brothers, Lamar, R. L. and Leroy Cox.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Carl Rice, Jr., of Portland; a daughter, Christie Owens and husband, William of Metcalfe, Mississippi; a brother, Waymon Cox of Magnolia; a special niece, Linda Rogers of Siloam Springs and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is August 2 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Portland Baptist Church, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. Rev. Carl Mason and Jerry Selby will officiate.
Burial will be at the Portland Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ron Miller, Jimmy Sadler, Richard Sadler, George Rutledge, Buddy Lawrence and Emory Austin. Honorary pallbearers are Denver Burns, Bill Wilson, Benton Newcome, Michael Borland and Taylor Young.
