Phillip Wayne Goodwin, Sr., 77, of Crossett, passed away on August 11, 2021.
He was born on September 18, 1943, to his parents, Henry and Verna Estelle Goodwin.
On March 8, 1963, he and the love of his life, Cheryl Murphy, eloped. Two years later, he began clearing land to build their family home. To Phillip, family was everything. He knew what he wanted, and with God’s help, he made it happen.
Mr. Goodwin was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church. He worked for Georgia Pacific as an E & I technician, and after a 44 career, he retired in 2006.
He had many passions throughout his life, woodworking, horseback riding, and training colts. However, nothing brought sparkle to his eyes until his grandchildren, and great grands came along. They lit up his world and always put a smile on his face, even on the most challenging days.
He was preceded in death by his parents and leaves behind his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Cheryl Goodwin; one son, Phil Goodwin, and wife, Miki, of Hamburg; one brother, Donnie Goodwin, and wife, Sylvia, of Lake Village; two grandsons, Josh Goodwin, and wife, Tailor, of Crossett, and Luke Goodwin of Hamburg; along with two great-grandchildren, Jase, and Lydia Goodwin; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to nieces Shannon Kinney and Brooke Rainey as well as Justin Smalling for the excellent care provided for Phillip in his last days. Thanks also to the entire family for their help and support over the last five years.
Due to the recent increase in Covid-19 cases in our area, the family has chosen to have a private graveside service at Crossroads Cemetery with Bro. Mike Griffith and Bro. Buddy Kinney officiating. Pallbearers are Dean Holland, Hayden Swan, Josh Goodwin, Jason Rainey, Justin Smalling, and Todd Moffatt. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Murphy and Luke Goodwin.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
Services entrusted to Medders Funeral Home of Crossett.
