The pilot and a passenger in a single-engine Piper aircraft were were injured in a plane crash at Sheridan’s airport shortly before noon Tuesday, the Pine Bluff Commercial is reporting.

The pilot, Warren V. Wilkerson, 76, of Grant County, was transported by Med Flight to a Little Rock hospital and a passenger, Wesley B. Griffin, 40, of Sheridan was transported by ambulance.

Wilkerson told rescuers that his plane’s controls malfunctioned as it was lifting off. It crashed nose-first into a stand of trees on the east side of the runway area.
