The Portland City Council appointed Alderman Gary Morgan to complete the unexpired term of Portland Mayor Phillip Privett after accepting Privett’s resignation.

Citing family interests that limit his time in Portland, Privett said in his resignation letter that he believes the city would be better served by someone who spends more time in Portland.

Morgan intends run for the office in the next election when the current term expires.

The Portland City Council is expected to have Morgan’s replacement on the city council seated by the next city council meeting in Feburary.
