An 18-wheeler overturned early Monday morning shortly after 2 a.m. on Arkansas 35 South when the truck got too close to the edge of the highway causing the rain-soaked highway shoulder to collapse under the weight of the truck, according to Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober.
The accident occurred in a flooded area in Drew County about one-and-a-half miles west of Dermott.
Gober said the truck, owned by the Camden-based Woodfield Trucking, was headed to Hood Packaging in Drew County when the shoulder collapsed.
There were signs and barricades in the area indicating the highway is closed due to flooding from recent rain.
The driver of the truck was not seriously injured. He suffered some bruising and was taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released, Gober said.
