Ralph Conrad Deal, 94, of Warren passed away November 6, 2020 at Bradley County Memorial Hospital in Warren.
He was born on March 21, 1926 in Fountain Hill to the late Jessie Jackson Deal and Mary Holland Deal.
Mr. Deal was a 1949 graduate of Arkansas A & M College (UAM) in Monticello and served in the United States Army from 1944 until 1946. He was a sergeant in the 9th Infantry Division and was among the first soldiers to cross the bridge at Remagen, Germany. The battle of the Remagen Bridge in March 1945 was a pivotal conflict which allowed Americans troops to cross the Rhine River and penetrate central Germany. This battle was instrumental in ending the war in Germany. During this campaign, he was injured and was transferred to the US Army Field Hospital in Liege, Belgium where he recovered and returned to combat. After the war in Germany ended, he was assigned to the US Army Occupation Forces and remained in Germany until 1946 when he was discharged and returned to Arkansas. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service and for combat actions.
Mr. Deal was a long time employee of Potlatch until his retirement in 1991 where he served as pine sales manager. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Warren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Cole Deal, whom he married on August 9, 1951. Also preceding him in death were sisters, Frances Deal Cleveland and Joann Phillips; two sons John and Jessie Deal and granddaughter, Lindsey Denton-Watson.
He is survived by a sister, Jean Kilcrease of Crossett; daughters Dana Denton (Curt) and Denise Cuthbertson (Robert) both of Warren; son, Mark C. Deal of Pine Bluff; four grandchildren, Chase Denton of Alexander, John Denton (Dana) of Grand Island, NE, Dennen Cuthbertson of Warren Kathryn Cuthbertson of Little Rock; five great grandchildren, Cole Denton of Alexander, Lydia and Clark Denton of Grand Island, NE and Baylor and Presleigh Watson of Stuttgart, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 10 at 1:30 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Warren.
Pallbearers are Dennon Cuthbertson, John Denton, Chase Denton, David Cleveland, Kent Kilcrease and Kevin Kilcrease. Honorary pallbearers are Rick Warner, Larry Stewart, John Royer, John Little, John McClellan, Dr. Joe Wharton, John Lipton and First Baptist Church Sunday School Class.
