Ralph Edward Chastain, Jr., 81, of Monticello, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017 at his home.

He was born on November 8, 1935 in Rossville, Georgia to the late Ralph E. Chastain, Sr. and Ella Walker Chastain.

He was retired from SeaArk Marine, served in the United States Army Reserve and was a Baptist. He enjoyed photography and could always be found with a camera or two in his truck or his hand. His interests were reading and keeping up with world news and events and listening to classical music. The two things he loved most in his life were his wife, Mildred and the Georgia Mountains.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mildred Middlebrooks Coon Chastain of Monticello; three sons, Gregory Chastain and wife Gemma of Orlando, Florida, Gary Coon of Sheridan and Kim Coon of Monticello; three daughters, Tracey Herman and husband Doug of Rising Fawn, Georgia, Jan Coon Cockrell of Monticello and Lisa Coon of Little Rock; one sister, Jimmie Barber of Rossville, Georgia; two half-sisters, Sherolyn Rawley and husband Rick of San Antonio, Texas and Judy Newlan and husband Ralph of Marshall, Texas; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three special friends, Mike Creager, Dian Pruitt and Dawn Matthews and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.

A funeral service will be held at on Tuesday, October 24, at 11 a.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday, prior to service.
