Retiring Lincoln County Sheriff Larry McGee is endorsing his criminal investigator, Lt. Kenneth (Bubba) Davis for sheriff in the May 20 Democratic Primary.

McGee is retiring after 40 years in law enforcement, 10 of those as Lincoln County sheriff.

In a news release announcing his retirement and endorsement of Davis, McGee thanked the residents of Lincoln County for their support and said he fully endorses Davis.

“Bubba has worked beside me over the last 10 years and he will serve you well as sheriff,” McGee said.

McGehee’s news release:

“I wanted to take this opportunity to say a very special ‘Thank you’ to each and every one of you. It has been my pleasure to serve you the last ten years as your sheriff.

Remembering back over the last ten years and all of the things we have accomplished, I think the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department has truly made a difference in the quality of life for all residents. With 40 years of law enforcement service, it’s time for me to move on into the next phase of my life: retiring to fishing trips, grandkids, and a host of ‘honey do’ projects that await me.

“Before I leave, I want to also take this time to fully endorse Kenneth (Bubba) Davis for Lincoln County Sheriff. Bubba has worked beside me over the last 10 years and he will serve you well as sheriff.”

Davis also issued a news release announcing his candidacy:

I, Kenneth (Bubba) Davis am announcing my candidacy for Lincoln County Sheriff.

I am the son of Kenneth Davis Sr. of Louisiana and the late Sharon Hill Davis of Star City. I have been married to Carmen Davis for 21 years and together we have three children Brandon Davis of Louisiana, Kyle Davis and Amanda Murphy of Star City and five grandchildren.

Immediately after graduation, I went to work for Halliburton Engineering and Lexicon Inc. and obtained the position of superintendent (project director). I also worked for Alstom Powers/ABB based in Switzerland overseeing a variety of engineering projects .Upon returning to the United States we decided to make Star City, Arkansas home. I worked as a patrolman for the Star City Police Department for eleven months before joining the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office where I currently serve as the County’s Criminal Investigator. I have served in a variety of positions including patrolman, training officer and major crime investigator during my tenure with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department for the last ten years. I am a graduate of the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy, Criminal Investigators, and Drug Enforcement Case Management. I attended the Missing and Exploiting Children’s School in Washington DC, and the UAM Criminal Justice Institute where I obtained a Certificate in Narcotics Officer Training. I am a certified scuba diver for the search and rescue team of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, and a member of the Little Garnett Fire Department.

If elected, my goals are to continue the strong support for the schools resource officers program and to work with all agencies to continue the fight against all criminal activity. I have worked diligently over the past ten years in the Sheriff’s Department and I will continue to provide the same high quality of service in all my future endeavors. I respectfully ask for your support and vote during the upcoming election on May 20th, 2014. Thank you in advance.
