Richard Wayne Ward, 63, of Dumas, passed away on June 12, 2016.

He attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello and graduated from Pharmacy School at University of Louisiana Monroe. He was a pharmacist in New Orleans for many years before retiring and returning home to Dumas.

Mr. Ward was a faithful member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where he served as assistant Sunday school director, assistant young adult director, assistant BTC teacher, usher and VBS teacher. He loved his family, church family and friends. He enjoyed substitute teaching for the Dumas School District.

He was born in Dumas on April 25, 1953 and was the son of the late Jessie Verlon and Nettie Ruth White Ward.

Survivors are his children, Neely Walker (Johnny) of Ponchatoula, Louisiana and Jonathan Ward of Lexington, Kentucky; grandchildren, Gaby Cook of Hammond, Louisiana and Cloie Cook of Ponchatoula, Louisiana; sisters, Janet Ward of White Hall and Julia Speegle (JR) of Dumas; a niece, Jessie Speegle of Dumas; and nephew, Jacob Penn of White Hall.

Visitation will be held on June 17 at 1 p.m. at Calvary Missionary Baptist prior to funeral services at 2 p.m. Rev. Julius Carter will officiate. Burial will be at Jefferson Cemetery at Winchester.
