Robert Samuel McBryde, Sr., 80, of Star City died on February 10, 2016 at Lincoln Heights Healthcare in Star City.
Mr. McBryde was an active member of First Baptist Church in Star City, a veteran of the United States Army, a 32nd degree Mason, and a Shriner. He had served as president of Star City Optimist Club, Lincoln County Cattlemen’s Association, Arkansas Charolais Association and Star City Hunting Club.
Mr. McBryde retired from the Arkansas Department of Corrections in Pine Bluff, where he was a supervisor. He graduated from Star City High School and earned a BSA degree from Arkansas State University, where he was a Pi Kappa Alpha.
Bob had been a director of C&L Electric for 36 years, representing the cooperative members in Lincoln County since 1979. During that time he had served as secretary-treasurer, vice-president and president of the board of directors. In 2014, Bob was one of six directors across the state to receive the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas Pioneer Award. He also served as a director of Arkansas Electric Cooperatives, Inc. and Arkansas Electric Cooperatives Corporation.
He was born on April 1, 1935 in Pine Bluff to the late Fred and Angie Parker McBryde.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded him by a sister, Aileen Petty.
Survivors include wife, Betty McBryde of Star City; son, Sam (Tanya) McBryde of Pine Bluff; daughter, Lissa (Shawn) Stark of Blue Springs, MO; and four grandchildren, John Robert McBryde, Laura McBryde, John Patrick Stark and Shawn Michael Stark.
Funeral services will be held on February 13 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Star City with Bro. Elwin Ollar, Bro. Sluggo Norris and Bro. Marcus Rogers officiating.
Visitation is February 12 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Griffin Funeral Service in Star City. Burial will be at Leek Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Robert Wilson Floyd, Taylor Grayson, Israel Mendoza, Jr., John Robert McBryde, Shawn Michael Stark, Bentley Matthews, Jim Haley and Tyler Carter. Honorary pallbearers are Frank Appleberry, Ronald Morgan, Ernie Bradshaw, Bubba Mosley, P. A. Shockley, Robert Floyd, Jack Davis, Lynn Weatherford, Johnny McGraw and Barry Boren.
