Ronnie Pennington, 79, of Fountain Hill, died January 14, 2022, at Drew Memorial Hospital.
He was a 1960 graduate of Fountain Hill High School and served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1964 until 1970 during the Vietnam era.
Mr. Pennington could do any kind of carpentry, worked as a brick mason contractor for over 45 years, and was a cattle farmer. He was a co-founder and past president, from 1987 until 2000, of the Fountain Creek Hunting Club, a former chairperson of the Zion Cemetery Trust Fund, and a former Fountain Hill Frontier Days committee member. He was a long time member of the Zion United Methodist Church and his firm belief was that “God got him through a lot of tough times in his life.” He enjoyed gardening, cooking, hunting, and fishing, especially at their Saline River camp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Proctor and Thelma Wallis Pennington; three brothers, Rodney “Ricochet” Pennington in 2017, Tommy Pennington in 2012, and Justin “Red” Pennington in 2007.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Karen Bridges Pennington; a daughter, Sundi Denise Pennington Crum and husband, Randy; his sister, Diane Kinney, all of Fountain Hill; a sister-in-law, Shirley Hennington Pennington of Hamburg; two grandsons, Curtis Crum and Rusty Crum and wife, Shaina, and a great-granddaughter, Annalise Klaire Crum.
A graveside service will be held Monday, January 17 at 2 p.m. at the Zion Cemetery with Bro. Jimmy Faulk and Bro. Jim Bailey officiating.
Pallbearers are Rusty Crum, Tony Craig, Tim Abney, Mark Williams, Andy Riels, Mark Pennington, Thomas Halley and Stan Craig. Honorary pallbearers are Curtis Crum, Jerry Stanley, Larry Stanley, Scott Strickland, Jimmy Boykin, Dean Hill, Bill Hester, Buddy Barnes, Billy Morton, Brad Barfield, Dennis Cole, Scott Reynolds and Jeff Pennington.
