Roosevelt Lindsey, Sr., 94, of Monticello passed away on November 4, 2013 at the Woods Nursing and Rehab Center in Monticello.
Mr. Lindsey was born in Monticello on October 17, 1919 and was the son of Cleveland and Minnie Lindsey. He received Christ at an early age.
He attended school at Selma and worked as a logger after finishing school. He served in World War II and was called to the ministry while in the United States Army. He pastored nine churches over a period of 60 years.
After 16 years of service, he retired from Burlington Industries. He also worked for the city of Monticello for 26 years. He was a member of the Wyoming Masonic Lodge #461.
Mr. Lindsey was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister.
He was accepted peacefully into the Kingdom of God and leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Inez Lindsey of Monticello, five daughters, four sons,12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation is Friday, November 8 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Stephenson Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello. The funeral service will be held at Pilgrim Rest A.M.E. on Saturday, November 9 at 1 p.m. Arrangements by Stephenson Dearman Funeral Home.
