Plans are underway for 64th annual Bradley County Pink Tomato Festival but many of the traditional events and activities will not be possible due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The festival will be held June 12-13 with a focus on safety. The theme will be “Safe and Minimal.”

This year’s festival will feature a “giant” fireworks show will be held on Saturday, June 13. Festival organizers say social distancing will be observed and the fireworks show can be held without danger to those in attendance.

The Pink Tomato 5K will be a virtual race this year. Those who participate will receive a custom Covid-19 race shirt and a finisher medal. Shirts and medals may be mailed or a pickup time will be scheduled for local participants. Participants can run the race on their personal schedule at any location. The Tour de Tomato bike ride is still set for June 6, the Saturday before the festival. There will be a 62-mile, 40-mile and a 15-mile ride, beginning at the Bradley County Courthouse. Plans are in the works now for the before and after events.

The following traditional festival events will NOT be held due to the limitation on gatherings in place: parade, carnival, vendors, pageants, turtle races, steak cook-off, arts&crafts, All Tomato Luncheon, car show, Hispanic night, DJ Jam A Lot, stage-based entertainment such as the tomato-eating contest, magic show, and live entertainments (music and bands.
