Samantha Edith Jacks Axley, 101, of Star City, passed away on February 23, 2020 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
She was born December 2, 1918 in Palmyra to the late Alphew S. and Cornelia Etta Owen Jacks. She was of the Baptist faith and a retired security specialist for the United States Government-Navy, retiring in 1969. She was a 1937 graduate of Star City High School; attended Arkansas A&M; and attended Chabot College in Hayward, California after retirement. She enjoyed reading, sewing, handcrafts, gardening, cooking; and raising orchids and fruit trees.
Also preceding her in death were her husband, George Edward Axley, who she married on September 16, 1940; son, Richard M. Axley; five brothers, Holland, Havis, Glen, Homer and Calvin Jacks; and four sisters, Florence Cook, Ola Wagner, Laura Parker, and Mina Haynes.
Survivors include a host of nieces, nephews and many cousins.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 26, at 11 a.m. at Hickory Grove Cemetery near Star City with Bro. Bill Hilburn officiating. There will be no visitation.
