Samuel Lawrence Arnold, Jr.

Samuel Lawrence Arnold, Jr., 40, of Hamburg, died on August 7, 2015 in Drew County. He was an employee of Barnes Lumber Company and a member of Soldiers Chapel A.M.E. Church.

Mr. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Samuel Lawrence Arnold and Evelyn Gray Arnold; two brothers, James Arnold and Lawrence Arnold; his paternal grandparents, Rev. Robert Arnold and Sutilla Primm Arnold; his maternal grandparents, Joseph Gray and Mattie Hutchins Gray; and a niece, Syncere Arnold.

Mr. Arnold enjoyed listening to music, cooking, watching movies, fishing and spending time with his children and family. He was a “gentle giant” who loved everyone regardless of race or gender.

He is survived by a son, Jontavious Barfield of Bastrop, Louisiana; two daughters, Sayveeon Arnold and Amilleeon Arnold both of Hamburg; six sisters, Sharon Walls (Andre) of Lake Village, Meyonna Arnold of Monticello, Lawanda Simpson of Monticello, Peggy Brown (Earl) of Bastrop, Louisiana, Carolyn Cromwell (James) of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Chanel Carter (Donald) of Woodbridge, Virginia; five brothers, Raymond Arnold of Los Angeles, California, Lawrence Arnold of Little Rock, LaDerron Arnold of Eudora, Brandon Brown of Hamburg, and Cleophus Robinson of Omaha, Nebraska; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews other family, loved ones and friends.

Funeral services will be held on August 29, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. John Arnold, officiating. Burial will be at Johnson Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers are Edward Brown, Mark Simpson, Vincent Mitchell, Willie Gulley, Todd Cox and Larry Adcock. Honorary pallbearers are the Hamburg High School Class of 1992.
