Sarah Alice Ederington Fite, a prominent massage therapist in Little Rock and Malvern in the 1970s and 1980s, died February 13, 2014 at Arbor Oaks Health and Rehabilitation in Malvern. She was 86.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Baker of Malvern; a sister, Catherine Quimby of Warren; a step-grandson, John Baker and family of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Fite was a member of Sardis Primitive Baptist Church at Malvern.
After many years as a homemaker and having raised her daughter to adulthood, Mrs. Fite trained to be a massage therapy technician and was instrumental in establishing therapeutic massage as a legitimate health benefit in central Arkansas. During the time she was practicing, her story was featured in the Arkansas Democrat, the Arkansas Gazette, and the Malvern Daily Record newspapers as well as three Little Rock television stations.
Mrs. Fite was born October 30, 1927 in Jersey and was the youngest child of the late William Wheeler and Lena May Roark Ederington.
In addition to her paretns, she was preceded in death by her her husband of 65 years, Virgil Clarence Fite; son-in-law Don Baker; brothers, Travis Wheeler, Irby Charles, Ollie William, and Lewis Allen Ederington; sisters, Cordia Ann, Anna Louise and Carrie Mae Ederington Sellers Vaughn; nephews, John Paul Quimby and Edward Sellers, Jr.; and nieces Ann Sellers Young and Mary Sellers Coon.
Funeral services will be held February 16 at 1:30 p.m. at Frazer’s Funeral Home in Warren with Elder Jesse Stripland officiating. Visitation will begin at noon at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.
Graveside services will be held February 17 at 2 p.m. at Round Hill Cemetery in Dallas County. Pallbearers will be nephews and nephews-in-law.
