Two-time defending champion and top seeded University of Arkansas-Monticello was eliminated Sunday from the Great American Conference Baseball Championship Tournament.
The Weevils fell to No. 2 seed Southern Arkansas University, 15-6, at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, Oklahoma.
SAU (33-17) hit six home runs while UAM (30-19) hit three. The two teams’ combined home runs set the combined single-game GAC Championship record for home runs.
UAM, ranked eighth in the most recent NCAA Division II Central Region rankings, will now until the NCAA.com selection show to see if the Weevils will make their third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament.
