Gov. Asa Hutchinson and Dr. Nathaniel Smith, Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Health, held a news conference Sunday to update the public on the state’s coronavirus (COVID-19) response. Watch the news conference below.
Hutchinson said schools across the state will be closed to on-site instruction beginning Tuesday and running through spring break. Though the the mandatory closures will start Tuesday, Hutchinson said school districts are authorized to begin closures on Monday if they are prepared and willing to do so. The announcement comes as a result of parents’ and educators’ “legitimate concern” over the spread of coronavirus in Arkansas, according to Hutchinson.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Arkansas has risen from 12 to 16, the state Department of Health reported Sunday.
