Three Monticello football players and two Crossett football players are among the 5A Southeast Conference players receiving All-State honors while two players from McGehee, two from Dumas, and one from Warren made Class 4A All-State.
The names of Star City’s All-State players were not immediately available and there were no Hamburg, Lake Village or Drew Central players making All-State, although Hamburg had several making All-Conference, Drew Central had two, and Lake Village had one. All-Conference players will be featured in an upcoming article.
Troy Brunson, a senior center and linebacker from Monticello; Jordan Smith, a senior defensive lineman from Monticello; Kameron Smith, a senior offensive and defensive lineman from Monticello; Kenyon Brantley, a senior defensive tackle from Crossett; and Corey Hodges, a junior free safety from Crossett all received Class 5A All-State honors.
Class 4A All-State honors went to Deondrei Haynes, a senior quarterback from McGehee; Steven King, a junior from McGehee; Jalen Cobb, a senior wide receiver from Warren; Jacob Bishop, a senior defensive lineman from Dumas; and Awkille Freeman, a senior running back from Dumas.
Deondrei Haynes, a Seark Today Player of the Week, and McGehee head coach Marcus Haddock are finalists for a 2011 Farm Bureau Award. The awards recognize Arkansas’ top offensive player, defensive player, and coach of the year for each classification.
Monticello’s Troy Brunson and Kameron Smith, who was also recognized during the regular season as a Seark Today Player of the Week, were 2011 Farm Bureau 5A Defensive Player of the Year nominees and Monticello head coach Greg Tiner was a 5A Coach of the Year nominee.
Warren’s Jalen Cobb, another Seark Today Player of the Week and a 2011 Farm Bureau Award nominee, has committed to play for the Arkansas Razorbacks.
