Sing, Dance, Rejoice! was the second major effort at “rebirthing” the 36-year-old, Seark Concert Association. The first was last April with Shindig on the Square. The “rebirthing” project targeted two new goals: Exposing Southeast Arkansas children to the arts more often and giving area artists a venue for sharing their talents.
Act II was a musical celebration of the real meaning of Christmas. Area choirs joined forces for Community Mass Choir directed by Josh Bazar. Other songs were offered by the UAM Jazz Band II, the Pilgrim Rest AME Church Youth choir, Cara Akin & Kevin Henry, Charles Graham, and a community handbell choir directed by Donna Francis. Between songs, videos shot in the homes of area residents gave a glimpse families’ various traditions of the season.
Professional ballerina & choreographer Michelle Alexander held tryouts in August and cast 44 Southeast Arkansas dancers in seven dances from the Nutcracker Suite plus a show-stopping Rockettes number. The presentation also featured two professional dancers from Ballet Arkansas performing The Arabian Coffee.
Sing, Dance, Rejoice! was sponsored by the Southeast Arkansas Concert Association and Commercial Bank in Monticello.
