sniper school

Law enforcement SWAT snipers from area counties and surrounding states attended an advanced sniper operations course this week in Drew County.

The course focused on law enforcement hostage rescue, special operations, sniper reconnaissance surveillance and advanced precision shooting skills as well as other crises response situations such as active shooter response. The course concluded with a 36 hour nonstop multi-mission operation.

The course was conducted by the Drew County Sheriff’s Office, Monticello Police Department and the 10th Judicial District Drug Task Force, and supported by the Office of Emergency Management.

Drew County Deputy Casey Pippen, a former Marine scout sniper, developed the course. Pippen, along with Monticello Police Officer William West and Van Buren Police officers, Chase Decroo and David Passen, were the instructors.

Ten snipers received this advanced course certification.

The course is conducted once a year at no cost to law enforcement or military. Any agency interested in sending personnel to the course should contact Pippen at the Drew County Sheriff’s Office or Officer William West at the Monticello Police Department.
