Athletes from C.B. King Memorial Adult Center in Arkansas City and the Southeast Arkansas Human Development Center in Warren proudly represented Southeast Arkansas at the recent Special Olympics Arkansas Summer Games at Harding University in Searcy.
The following athletes from the CB King Memorial Adult Center placed in the summer games:
Ricky Bassett, Rusty Fine, Anshawn Newhouse and Carlos Reaves (4 x 100 relay team) – 1st Place
Ricky Bassett – 1st place shot put, 3rd place 100 meter dash
Needie Graham – 1st place softball throw, 1st place 100 meter dash
Rusty Fine – 1st place softball throw, 2nd place 100 meter dash
Anshawn Newhouse – 1st place shot put, 1st place 100 meter dash
Carlos Reaves – 1st place 100 meter dash
Lillie Taylor – 1st place 100 meter walk, 2nd place softball throw
Beverly Washington – 1st place softball throw, 2nd place 100 meter dash
Patsy Washington – 2nd place softball throw, 2nd place 25 meter walk
Sharon Johnson – three 1st place finishes in Powerlifting
The following athletes from the Southeast Arkansas Human Development Center also placed:
Michael Askew – 3rd place 25 meter walk, 4th place softball throw
Shabrenda Beard – 4th place softball throw, 3rd place 25 meter walk
Deborah Halbrooks – 4th place softball throw, 3rd place 25 meter walk
Cody Ponder Moore – 4th place softball throw, 2nd place 100 meter dash
Karl Tucker – one 3rd place and two 2nd place finished in Powerlifting
The athletes qualified for the state games at the regional Area 12 Games on April 11 at the Monticello High School Track.
Area 12 Special Olympics includes Ashley, Bradley, Calhoun, Chicot, Cleveland, Dallas, Desha and Drew counties. Ked Donham and Tierra Stewart are the Area 12 directors.
Special Olympics Arkansas supports 14,000 athletes across the states that compete and train year-round in 20 different Olympic-type sports. In addition to their 240 competitions throughout the state Special Olympics Arkansas offers programming in education and health and wellness.
