Isabel Bacon pictured left (second from left), assistant professor of Spanish at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, recently accompanied five UAM students to Costa Rica for a three-week summer immersion program in Spanish language and Latino culture. Pictured from left are Matthew Brewer of Dumas, Bacon, Sarah Brook Harrison of Humphrey, Tyler Parr of Atlanta, Tex., Jessica Wells of McGehee, and Rebecca Saterfield of Camden. While in Costa Rica, the students studied at the Instituto Panamericano de Idiomas located in the cloud forest of Monteverde, attending intensive Spanish classes during the day while living with Costa Rican families where they were required to speak Spanish at all times.  As part of the experience, the students visited volcanoes and national parks, toured shopping markets, and engaged in cultural activities for a total immersion experience into the culture of the host country.
