St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Monticello will hold its annual Blessing of the Animals ceremony on October 3 at 5 p.m. in the church’s south parking lot at the corner of Hyatt and Jefferson streets, according to Fr. Rajashekhar Chappidi, pastor.
“We welcome both children and adults to bring their family pets to be blessed, “ Fr. Chappidi, said.
The blessing of the animals is an annual occurrence at Catholic churches throughout the world marking the celebration of the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi.
Likely the most popular of Catholic saints, Francis is the patron saint of animals and the environment. He was born in Italy and founded the Franciscan Order.
