Star City High School recently conducted a Second Mile Service Art Contest promoting community service as part of Student Showcase night.

The contest required students to depict an act of community service, charity, or kindness. The phrase “Second Mile Service” comes from the Bible verse Matthew 5:41 which states “If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.”

Winners of the 2nd Mile Service Art Contest in the first year division include: Wei-Chin Tsao, first place; Ashlyn Walker, second place; Hanley Lane, third place; and Bryan Magana, fourth place. Winners in the advanced division include: Amber West, first place; Karley Spivey, second place; Britney Smith, third place; and Arista Wilkerson, fourth place. The contest was sponsored by the Star City High School Art Club.
Winners received cash prizes ranging from $50 to $10.

“The Second Mile Service Art Contest gave students a chance to show their creativity and art making skills while promoting the importance of helping others,” said Roger Darren High, Star City High School art teacher and Art Club advisor.

In the spring the Art Club will organize and host a K – 12 district wide art show to showcase artwork created by students at Jimmy Brown Elementary School, Star City Middle School, and Star City High School.
