The retrial this week of a Star City man charged with murder in the October 2010 shooting death of 53-year-old Michael King resulted in a manslaughter conviction.

Jeffery Wayne Ratterree, 46, was sentenced Friday to nine years in prison after a Lincoln County jury found him guilty of manslaughter. The 9-year sentence is one year shy of the maximum 10 year sentence for manslaughter, a Class C felony.

Ratterree was charged with first-degree murder after he shot King in the face during an altercation at a Lincoln County residence where King and another man were working on a vehicle.

Ratterree’s first trial, in August 2011, ended with a 10-2 hung jury, 10 for manslaughter and two for second-degree murder.
