A Star City student has been arrested for allegedly making a statement on social media about “shooting up the school,” according to a statement released Thursday night by Star City School District Superintendent Jon Laffoon.
The statement was published on the school district’s web site. The student’s identity, age, grade and sex was not disclosed.
Full text of Laffoon’s statement:
We want to inform our community and families there was a social media incident in which a student made a statement about shooting up the school. We were made aware of the post late yesterday afternoon. We reported it to the police who determined it was not a substantiated threat. The student was taken into custody and the police are handling it.
We will take appropriate school disciplinary action. Our students are safe and were not in danger, but I encourage you to be vigilant – we can’t be too cautious. We are all Star City Bulldogs and that makes us family. As a family supports one another, we need continued parent and community support so our students will be successful.
