State Police special agents are investigating the early Friday morning shooting death of a man in Dumas.

At 1:15 a.m. Friday, Dumas Police officers received a report of gunfire at a Dumas residence on South Beech Street. Upon arrival, the officers found a wounded man inside the residence, according to a news release from State Police.

The man, identified as 39-year-old Claude Tatum, was transported to a local hospital where he died at 2:26 a.m., according to the news release.

At the request of the Dumas Police Department, State Police are processing the scene and assisting Dumas Police in the investigation of the homicide.
