Gov. Mike Beebe recently appointed State Rep. Sheilla Lampkin, D-Monticello, to the Southern Regional Education Board Legislative Advisory Council. The Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) has existed since 1948 as the first interstate compact for education and is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works within its 16 member states to improve public education from Pre-K through Higher Education. It is the only regional compact that works directly with state leaders, schools and educators to improve teaching, learning and student achievement at every level of education. SREB works closely with its Legislative Advisory Council to examine key issues, proposals, bills and funding relating to educational issues in the respective states. Representative Lampkin will serve as a member of the Legislative Advisory Council representing Arkansas. Lampkin is a candidate for the District 9 state House seat.
