A Lake Village man suspected in a fatal shooting Monday at Lake Village has surrendered.

Derrick Wilson, 43, of Lake Village surrendered to local police officers Tuesday following a day-long search, according to State Police.

Wilson is suspected in the shooting death of James Harden, 53, of Lake Village, police said.

Harden was shot Monday, around 1:30 p.m., while outside a residence at 423 Lee Street.

According to State Police, witnesses say Harden fled from Wilson who arrived at the residence shortly before the shooting occurred. Harden died while being transported to a nearby hospital.

Wilson likely will be charged with first-degree murder and and possession of a firearm for certain persons. He is being held at the Chicot County Detention Center pending a first appearance hearing, according to State Police.

Special Agents of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division were asked by Lake Village Police to investigate the homicide. The State Police investigation of circumstances leading up to the shooting and the subsequent homicide is continuing.
