Thelma Irene Lemonds Hughes, 85, of Gould passed away May 1, 2021 in Gould.
She was born June 9, 1935 in Star City to the late Homer D. and Virgie Lee Murray Lemonds.
Thelma was a member of Rankin Chapel Baptist Church in Dumas and was employed by Dumas Public Schools in the cafeteria for 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Melvin Hughes; a son, Melvin Eugene Hughes; a grandson, Brian Coulter; eight brothers, Thomas, Robert John, Jody, Floyd, Lloyd, Roger Dale, Elmer, Dennis and Bud; and six sisters, Betty Jean, Ruby Lee, Betty, Ester, Dorothy Jean, and Opal Lee.
Survivors are six sons, John Hughes of Greenville, Mississippi, Cleve Coulter of Benton, Paul D. Hughes of Dixon, Arkansas, Tommy Hughes of Bentonville, Gerald Hughes of Kelso, and Tracy Hughes of Gould; three daughters, Marianna Miller of Portland, Debra Shinn of Dumas and Renee White of Dumas; two brothers, John Lemonds of Dover, Delmar Lemonds of Watson; three sisters Jean Ratteree of Rison, Kathy Bohannon of Crossett, and Diane Beck of Cleveland, Mississippi; 31 grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She also had a special caregiver, her granddaughter Stacey Murphree.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 6, at 1 p.m. at Walnut Lake Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Rawson officiating. Visitation will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the cemetery prior to the service.
Memorials may be made in memory of Thelma to American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
