Theo H. Byrd, Jr., 89, of Monticello, passed away on April 18, 2016 at The Woods of Monticello.
He was a retired inspector for Kelsay Hayes and member of Second Baptist Church. He loved working in his garden, fishing and visiting with friends over breakfast and coffee at Hardee’s and McDonalds. He also enjoyed spending summers in his other home, in Rockford, Illinois, on the deck and lake with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be forever remembered and loved.
Mr. Byrd was born on September 14, 1926 in Munford, Tennessee and was the son of the late Theo H. Byrd, Sr. and Sally Cochron Byrd.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Griffin Byrd; one great-grandson, Matthew Block; and nineteen siblings.
Survivors include three daughters, Margene Maloney and husband Terry of Monticello, Priscilla Lapp and husband Dan of Rockford, Illinois and Stella Byrd of Warren; six grandchildren, Mary Hanna of Keller, Texas, Caterine Hall and Shawn Maloney both of Monticello, Ted Lapp, Kathleen Lewellen and Steve Lapp all of Rockford, Illinois; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will held on April 22 at 2 p.m. at Second Baptist Church. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation is APril 21 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Stephenson Dearman Funeral Home in Monticello.
