A touch of fall and a reprise of 20 years of musical performances highlight the third annual Weevil Spring Spectacular April 12-13 at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
The event begins with a tailgate party and football game and concludes with a performance spotlighting 20 years of musicals presented by the UAM Music Theatre Workshop. The weekend also includes baseball and softball doubleheaders and a dinner hosted by UAM Chancellor and Mrs. Jack Lassiter.
The weekend begins Friday, April 12 with a tailgate party. Food will be provided by Aramark Food Services and tailgaters are also encouraged to bring their grills and cook for themselves. Tailgating adjacent to Convoy Leslie-Cotton Boll Stadium and Weevil Pond begins at 4:30 p.m. The UAM football team will conduct its traditional Walk of Champions through the tailgating area at 5:30 p.m. The Boll Weevils will conclude spring practice with their annual Green-White football game at the stadium at 7 p.m. Game admission is free.
Saturday’s events begin with a baseball doubleheader at 12 noon between UAM and Southern Nazarene. The Cotton Blossoms softball team will host a doubleheader with Southern Arkansas with the first pitch at 1 p.m.
Prior to the musical performance, Jack and Judy Lassiter will host a dinner in the Spencer Gallery of the Fine Arts Center beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person ($5 for children under 10) with half the proceeds earmarked for the UAM choral program. At 7:30, Dr. Kent Skinner, director of choral activities, will direct “A Music Theatre Workshop Retrospective: 20 Years of Musicals.” Skinner, who is celebrating 20 years at UAM, has invited several alumni to return and recreate roles they sang as undergraduates.
