Thomas Franklin “Tom” Childers, 99, formerly of Crossett, passed away on December 25, 2013 at his daughter’s residence in Ovilla, Texas.
He was born on February 7, 1914 in Ashley County and was the son of the late Franklin and Edna Harris Childers.
Mr. Childers retired from Georgia Pacific after 40 years of service. He was a Baptist and an avid fisherman and hunter.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Gracie Davenport and Effie Watt; one brother, Rufus Childers; one daughter, Mary Nell Swan and one grandson, Ricky Swan.
Survivors include his wife of 78 years, Dorothy Clark Childers of Ovilla, Texas; one son, Thomas Glen Childers (Ann) of Crossett; one daughter, Rita Jones (Albert) of Ovilla, Texas; seven grandsons; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and one niece, Edna Watt of Crossett.
Funeral services will be held at South Main Baptist Church in December 28 at 10 a.m. with Bro. Buddy Burton and Bro. Lyle Hern officiating. Interment will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. Visitation will be held December 27 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Richard Childers, Tab Childers, Brian Childers, Chris Jones, Thomas Roy Swan, Steve Swan and Phillip Swan. Honorary pallbearers are
Bruen Craig, Arthur Clark, Max T. Ray, Craig Clark, Bruce Gray and Tony Blann.
